RNS

Repetitive Nerve Stimulation (RNS) is a specialized electrodiagnostic test used to evaluate the communication between nerves and muscles. It is primarily performed to diagnose disorders affecting the neuromuscular junction, where nerves transmit signals to muscles. The test measures the muscle's response to repeated electrical stimulation and helps detect abnormalities in nerve-to-muscle signal transmission.

When is RNS Recommended?

Your doctor may recommend an RNS test if you have symptoms suggestive of neuromuscular junction disorders.

  • Muscle weakness that worsens with activity
  • Drooping eyelids (Ptosis) or double vision
  • Difficulty speaking, swallowing, or chewing
  • Fatigue or weakness affecting daily activities
  • Suspected neuromuscular junction disorders
Conditions Diagnosed

RNS is commonly used to diagnose and assess disorders affecting nerve-to-muscle communication.

  • Myasthenia Gravis
  • Lambert-Eaton Myasthenic Syndrome (LEMS)
  • Congenital Myasthenic Syndromes
  • Other Neuromuscular Junction Disorders
Benefits of RNS
  • Accurately evaluates neuromuscular junction function
  • Helps confirm or rule out myasthenia gravis
  • Supports early diagnosis and timely treatment
  • Assists in monitoring disease progression and treatment response
  • Safe, reliable, and minimally invasive diagnostic procedure
