Rehabilitation of deformities

Rehabilitation of deformities focuses on restoring function, improving alignment, and enhancing the quality of life in individuals with structural abnormalities of bones, joints, or soft tissues. Deformities may be congenital (present at birth) or acquired due to trauma, disease, or poor posture. They can lead to pain, restricted movement, muscle imbalance, and difficulty in performing daily activities. A comprehensive rehabilitation approach aims to correct or manage the deformity, prevent further progression, and promote independence through therapeutic interventions and supportive care.

Management and Functional Rehabilitation

Management involves a multidisciplinary approach tailored to the type and severity of the deformity, with emphasis on both corrective and supportive strategies.

  • Physiotherapy: Stretching and strengthening exercises to improve alignment and mobility
  • Postural correction: Training to maintain proper body mechanics during activities
  • Orthotic support: Use of braces or splints to correct or support deformities
  • Surgical intervention: Considered in severe cases for structural correction
  • Functional training: Improving ability to perform daily activities independently
