Headaches & migraine

Headaches and migraines are common neurological conditions that can cause significant discomfort and interfere with daily life. A headache may present as a dull, aching pain or pressure in the head, while a migraine is typically more intense and often accompanied by additional symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light and sound. Migraines are believed to involve complex changes in brain activity, nerve signaling, and blood flow. Triggers can include stress, lack of sleep, hormonal changes, certain foods, dehydration, or environmental factors. While occasional headaches are common, frequent or severe episodes may require proper evaluation and long-term management.

  • Migraines usually cause moderate to severe throbbing pain, often on one side of the head, and may be associated with nausea, vomiting, and heightened sensitivity to light, sound, or smell, sometimes preceded by warning signs known as aura such as visual disturbances or tingling sensations.
  • Headaches can have multiple types including tension headaches (caused by stress and muscle tightness), cluster headaches (severe, recurring pain around one eye), and sinus headaches (linked to sinus infections), each with different patterns, causes, and treatment approaches.
  • Management includes identifying and avoiding triggers, maintaining proper sleep and hydration, using medications such as pain relievers or preventive drugs, and adopting lifestyle changes like stress management, regular exercise, and relaxation techniques to reduce frequency and severity.
