Pulmonary rehab (COPD, ILD, post lung surgery)

Pulmonary rehabilitation is a comprehensive, multidisciplinary program designed to improve respiratory function, exercise capacity, and quality of life in individuals with chronic lung conditions such as COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), interstitial lung disease (ILD), and those recovering after lung surgery. These conditions often lead to breathlessness, reduced endurance, fatigue, and limited daily activity. Pulmonary rehab combines exercise training, breathing techniques, education, and lifestyle modifications to help patients manage symptoms, increase independence, and reduce hospitalizations.

Exercise Training

Exercise training is a key component that helps improve physical endurance and reduce breathlessness during activities.

  • Aerobic exercises: Walking or cycling to improve cardiovascular and respiratory endurance
  • Strength training: Enhances muscle strength, especially of upper and lower limbs
  • Gradual progression: Intensity increased based on tolerance and oxygen levels
  • Monitoring: Regular check of oxygen saturation, heart rate, and symptoms
